Thankfully, that's changing, as hotels are unleashing pet-friendly programs designed to treat your pooch like royalty (Hey, your pet needs a vacation, too!). There are even sites like BringFido.com, geared to traveling with your dog. Customized beds, organic treats — even doggie massages (believe it!) are some of the perks you can expect at these pet-friendly hotels.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco — Denver, Colorado

Like all the Kimpton properties, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco goes above and beyond for your four-legged friends. Expect plush beds, food, water bowls, and mats, along with a concierge list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks, groomers — even pet boutiques. Plus, you can bring your pooch along to the nightly wine reception in the lobby.

You don't even have to leave the premises when you need to walk Fifi, because the Soho Grand Hotel has its own outdoor dog park, complete with fire-hydrant water stations and dog-friendly benches. After getting some fresh air, your pampered pup can snack on organic doggie biscuits from Bocce's Bakery (which are sold at most Shake Shacks).

Austin's most classic hotel — the Driskill dates back to 1886 — is also one of its most pet-friendly. Once in the room, they can curl up in comfort in their special bed — but not before getting a turn-down treat.
