Seriously, how did we live before Alexa came into our lives? She answers questions, tells you the weather, keeps you on schedule with alarms, plays your favorite jams, and now, she’s your personal style guru. Yes, you can now FINALLY stop urgently texting your friends about which outfit they prefer when you’re having a fashion crisis, because the Echo Look is here to help you look your best any day.
It’s the Echo you love, but now it has a hands-free camera to take images of your outfits, help you organize and categorize your favorite outfits, and even help you choose between two looks with the Style Check feature. Who needs an Instagram husband when Alexa can take pics of your favorite outfits and give you style guidance? Plus, you can set a timer so Echo Look remembers to check out your duds every day and snap a picture. Getting ready for that big vacation? You can use the Echo Look app to put your favorite looks in a collection of images to reference later that’ll make packing easier than ever.
Remember that opening scene from Clueless when Cher Horowitz uses her computer to browse her wardrobe to put together the perfect #OOTD?
Yes, dreams do come true, and we’re totally buggin’! We got our hands on the new Echo Look just in time to see what Alexa thinks of our new season purchases from Shopbop and East Dane. Think we’d pass on an opportunity to test out this new Alexa-but-make-it-fashion? As if! Check out our Style Checks and see if you agree with the Echo Look.
Here’s a quick list of what the Amazon Echo Look can do:
1. Hands-Free Photos: The Echo Look helps you take snaps with a strong pose (no need to strain your arms anymore or use a mirror!).
2. Organize Your #OOTDs: Once you snap your photos using the Echo Look, you can share them with friends and make folders to organize your favorite looks.
3. Check Your Style: Can’t figure out which jacket to rock today? Or can’t figure out if your outfit is a hit or miss? Style Check compares two images and gives you feedback on which look works better. You can even check with the community on Amazon Spark to share your looks and get their feedback, too!
4. The Same Alexa Features You Love: Alexa has her same features, with the ability to tell you the weather, play your favorite music, set alarms, and even help you call an Uber or Lyft.
5. Two People Can Use One Echo Look: Go halfsies with your roommate on an Echo Look or share it with your partner, because now with Speaker ID, you can set up multiple profiles. Just set up two accounts and let Alexa know when you want to switch from one to the other.
Look 1 - Print vs. Print
We wanted to see what would happen when we compared two totally different items with the exact same print, and the Echo Look didn't disappoint! Instead of getting an error, Alexa chose her favorite without skipping a beat. The interesting part is that she couldn't give specifics (The only time this happened!), but I agree with the pick, so it's safe to say she still knows what she's doing. Also, this is the perfect scenario for when you might want to use the community voting feature for a second opinion.
Look 2 - Off-Duty Denim
This time, I wanted to try styling one of my favorite off-duty staples, the graphic tee, two different ways to see which one Alexa preferred. She chose the black jeans because the combo was more flattering, and also because of the trending fit. I was happily surprised (and a bit impressed) that Alexa recognized the cropped flare silhouette as a current trend! I'd definitely use this again before heading to brunch or other weekend plans.
Look 3 - Party Prep
For the last look, I tried out this gorgeous Saloni dress as if I were heading to a special occasion, like a wedding or a cocktail party. I kept everything the same except the shoes to see if she could pick up on the difference. Sure enough, she was able to tell that I only switched up my shoes, and suggested the pointed-toe pumps as the more flattering option. Looking back at the picture, I think they look better, too! This will be SO helpful when there's no one at home to frantically ask, "Which shoes should I wear?!" (Which may or may not happen just about every day. )
Look 1 – Casual Friday
Polo Ralph Lauren Fun Shirt, $185, eastdane.com; Polo Ralph Lauren Short Sleeve Hawaiian Oxford Shirt, $99, eastdane.com; J Brand Kane Straight-Fit Jeans in Sklon, $176, eastdane.com; Harry’s of London Basel Kudu Suede Denim Blue Loafer, $395, harrysoflondon.com
There’s no better time to play up your office style like a summer Casual Friday. I knew I wanted to incorporate this season’s hottest color (millennial pink!) into my look with these J Brand pants, but couldn’t decide which Polo Ralph Lauren shirt to choose from. Style Check deemed the short-sleeve option to be a winner for its color, and I totally agree. While both shirts are a similar blue color, the extra pop of color from the embroidered tiger and tropical motif helps to break up the look, complete with my favorite loafers from Harry’s of London.
Look 2 - Sunday Funday
PS by Paul Smith Dino Sweatshirt, $150, eastdane.com; Ksubi Chitch Philly Blue Jeans, $215, eastdane.com; Polo Ralph Lauren Cotton Herringbone Trousers, $145, eastdane.com; Miansai Marine Link Chain, $85, miansai.com; Miansai Wise Lock Necklace, $185, miansai.com; Miansai Thin Screw Cuff, $315, miansai.com
Any day that’s not a 9-to-5 day calls for some seriously comfy clothes, but kicking back with a cold one on Sunday or hitting brunch with your bros doesn’t mean you want to be seen out and about in sweatpants. I was so stoked to wear my new dinosaur sweatshirt from PS by Paul Smith, but I needed some feedback on my bottoms. While I could live in my favorite Ksubi jeans all day, every day, I totally agree that these Polo Ralph Lauren pants take the look to the next level (along with some cool AF man-jewelry from Miansai). These trousers are great for a rugged-yet-dapper outfit, yet they have great stretch so I can enjoy any weekend adventures with major style.
Look 3 - Boys’ Night Out
Coach x Keith Haring Eagle Car Souvenir Jacket, $795, eastdane.com; Theory Leather Jacket, $995, eastdane.com; Proper Cloth Custom-Fit Lafayette 80 White Twill Shirt, $80, propercloth.com; Theory Tech Raffi Black Pants, $245, eastdane.com
Ever since I tried out a white custom-made shirt by Proper Cloth, I’ve been going for a sharp look when hitting the town. To top off my collared shirt and slim trousers from Theory, I couldn’t decide whether to go classic with a black leather jacket or make a style statement with my new bold Coach jacket. While Alexa went for the black leather jacket option (just by 10% more), I think it all depends on where I’m heading for the night. I’m totally torn on this one, but thankfully I can check in with the community for a second opinion!
We tried it, we loved it! Now, it's your turn to test out the Amazon Echo Look!
